Business data security

Your data ends here.
Your technology doesn't have to.

Orbitico helps organizations securely retire unwanted technology while prioritizing reuse. From collection through verified data sanitization, every asset follows a documented process designed to protect your information and keep usable technology in circulation.

From your office to its next orbit

Every device follows a documented journey from the moment Orbitico takes custody through sanitization and its final disposition.

STAGE 01

Secure Pickup

We collect approved electronics directly from your organization and establish custody of the equipment.

STAGE 02

Asset Scan

Equipment is inventoried using identifying information such as manufacturer, model, serial number and your organization's asset tag where applicable.

DeviceDell Latitude 5420
AssetABC-1847
SerialXXXXXXXX
STAGE 03

Chain of Custody

Each asset is associated with a documented record so its journey can be tracked from collection through processing and final disposition.

Traceable. Documented. Accountable.

STAGE 04

Secure Transport

Collected equipment is transported to the designated processing location under controlled handling procedures.

STAGE 05

Controlled Storage

Equipment awaiting processing is kept within Orbitico's controlled processing workflow until sanitization and assessment are completed.

STAGE 06

Erase the data. Not necessarily the device.

Where appropriate, data-bearing media is sanitized using recognized media-sanitization processes selected for the type of storage technology involved.

Orbitico's reuse-first approach means functional storage media does not need to be physically destroyed when an appropriate, verified sanitization method can securely prepare it for reuse.

HDDSSDNVMeOther supported media

The appropriate sanitization method depends on the storage technology, information sensitivity and client requirements. For a plain-language walkthrough of why simple deletion isn't the same thing, see our guide on securely erasing a laptop before donating it.

STAGE 07

Verification

Sanitization results are verified before equipment is cleared for reuse. Media that cannot be successfully sanitized and verified is removed from the reuse pathway and handled according to the appropriate security requirement.

Sanitization → Verification → PASS ✓ or Requires alternative disposition
STAGE 08

Documented proof.

Orbitico can provide asset-level sanitization records documenting the processing outcome for applicable devices.

STAGE 09

Data gone. Technology still useful.

Once data security requirements have been satisfied, viable equipment can move into Orbitico's reuse pathway.

Refurbish

Tested, repaired or upgraded where appropriate.

Reuse / Resale

Useful equipment returns to productive use.

Community Redistribution

Eligible equipment can support our community donation initiatives.

Responsible Recycling — a separate, last-resort pathway. Equipment that cannot be meaningfully reused is directed toward an appropriate recycling pathway.

Reuse first. Recycling when necessary.

When reuse isn't the answer

When physical destruction is required

Some organizations, security policies or types of media may require physical destruction rather than reuse. Where destruction is required, Orbitico can coordinate an appropriate secure-destruction pathway rather than returning that storage media to circulation.

Sanitization + Reuse

Best when security requirements allow the storage media to remain reusable.

Physical Destruction

Used when client policy, media condition or security requirements call for destruction.

Need the data handled before equipment leaves your location?

For organizations with stricter custody requirements, Orbitico is developing on-site sanitization options that could allow approved equipment to be processed before it leaves your location.

Reporting

One collection. One clear report.

For larger business collections, your report gives a clear, asset-level record of how each device was handled. Example shown below.

ORB-10023HP EliteBookUnable to verifySecure Destruction

Your final report provides a clear record of how collected technology was handled, including:

  • Total devices collected
  • Devices sanitized
  • Devices reused
  • Devices donated
  • Media requiring destruction
  • Devices recycled

Built around recognized sanitization practices

Orbitico's process is being designed around recognized guidance for media sanitization, verification, documentation and chain of custody — including concepts from NIST SP 800-88 and the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security's media sanitization guidance. We reference this guidance to inform our process; we do not claim government certification or endorsement.

Retire technology without retiring its potential.

Tell us what equipment your organization needs to decommission. We'll help determine the appropriate collection, data-security and reuse pathway.
